Meanwhile Jeff Kardas and Todd Sewell played one of the cleanest ties of the season — both shot 42 gross, Sewell edges Kardas by a single net stroke and takes the low-net bonus, final score 5–5. It was also the first time these two met in a live H2H match (their prior encounter in May was a card round). Paul Rael takes Brian Shields 7–3. Rael shoots 45 gross, nets 38 on a 7 handicap. Shields shoots 50 gross, nets 41. A 3-stroke net gap that showed up in the hole-by-hole score: Rael dominated. After going 8–1 over Jimmie Rains in Week 12 and losing to Orlando 6.5–3.5 in Week 14, Rael bounces back strong. He's up to 72.5 and in 5th place — well positioned to be a factor in the final stretch. This was also Rael's and Shields' first meeting.
Tom Pehr goes 6–4 on Joe Olson and wins the longest putt. Pehr shoots 44 gross, nets 41 on a 3 handicap. Olson struggles — 57 gross, net 43. The 2-stroke net gap wasn't enormous but Pehr made the most of it. He drains the longest putt on 9 — his first LP win of the season — and moves to 76.0 total points. The four players between 72.5 and 82.5 are all in legitimate striking distance with five weeks left.
Dennis Candelaria beats Jimmie Rains 6–4. Candelaria shoots 48 gross, nets 43 on a 5 handicap. Rains shoots 56 gross, nets 44 on a 12. A one-stroke net edge, but Candelaria won the right holes and picks up 6 points. Their first meeting this season. Candelaria moves to 61.5 — tied with Andy Dean for 9th — and is making a quiet case for second-half relevance.
